KAREN L. WHITE: EXPERIENCED TO LEAD

 

Most Recent Administrative Experience:

 

Former Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Services/Dean of Students 

Indiana University South Bend, 2007 to Present 

 

Provided vision, leadership, strategic direction and coordination to the comprehensive array of services and programs to the following offices in Student Services: Academic Centers for Excellence, Career Services, Disability Support Services, Housing and Student Life, Making the Academic Connection, Student Conduct, Student Counseling Center and Student Support.  In addition to service as Dean of Students, was Chair of the campus Threat Assessment Team and a key member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.  

 

Director of the Summer Leadership Academy 

Indiana University South Bend, 2008 to Present 

 

As Director, provided administrative and programmatic leadership for students, faculty and staff.  Responsible for the entire 7 1/2-week program for incoming college students based upon the tenets of the Civil Rights Movement.  Principles taught are civic engagement and responsibility, with three credit hours earned for both an Education and History course.  This program supports the university’s recruitment and retention initiatives for under-represented students. 

 

Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management 

Indiana University South Bend, July to October 2007 

 

During the search for the Vice Chancellor, provided leadership to all of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, this included participation at Chancellor’s executive cabinet and attendance at weekly meetings.  Additional offices supervised in the interim included Admissions, Financial Aid, International Student Services, and the Registrar.  The role of Vice Chancellor was in conjunction with the everyday duties and responsibilities of the Associate Vice Chancellor’s position.   

 

Assistant Vice Chancellor Student Services/Dean of Students, 2002 to 2006 

Indiana University South Bend 

 

As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Services, was responsible for all units within Student Services including Academic & Learning Center, Campus Diversity and Judicial Affairs, Career Services, Disabled Student Services, Lumina Grant, Making the Academic Connection, Student Life, and Student Support. 

 

Adjunct Instructor, School of Education, 1993 to 2014 

Indiana University South Bend 

 

Noted Accomplishments:

Reorganized Freshman Division in order to provide better services to the students by including counseling services as well as academic services. 

 

Collaborated with IUSB faculty in authoring a grant request, and subsequently being granted funds for the Threshold Learning Seminar, which is a class geared toward incoming students to introduce them to university life.  The course continues as U100, University Life Seminar, now required for probationary admitted students.
