Karen White has served as a member of the South Bend Common Council since January 1, 2000. From her early years on the South Bend Community School Board of Trustees until today as Council Member, Ms. White has devoted over 28 years of service to the community as an elected official.   

 

Council Women White has served as Vice President, President, and Chair of the Committee of the Whole as a member of the South Bend Common Council.  Where she has exemplified outstanding leadership.  She has an outstanding attendance and voting record. Long recognized as the voice of reason, she has established herself as a person committed to public service.

 

Upon her retirement Karen received the following honors and recognitions: 

 

  • The Sagamores of the Wabash, given by Governor Eric J. Holcomb, State of Indiana 

  • The key to St. Joseph County 

  • State of Indiana, Indiana Senate Certification of Special Recognition 

  • The Circle of Corydon, State of Indiana, given by Governor of the State of Indiana 

  • Special Proclamation of Outstanding Service, City of South Bend, Indiana

  • 2019 Roland Kelly Award Recipient

With an outstanding record of leadership and accomplishments as a student affairs administrator for over 40 years, Karen White has been a strong visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to holistic student success, including ways to enhance student learning outcomes, engagement, and persistence as partners in the collegiate experience. 

 

As a senior affairs administrator on the IU South Bend campus she has been actively engaged in working with students, faculty and staff to enhance student success.
